My summer drink
When it comes to poolside dehydration, I normally reach for a cold beer but not this summer because I have found a healthier solution. I know what you’re thinking; does this girl live under a rock?, does she even drink alcohol? The answer is no and a hard YES. I’d actually like to think I’m your typical 30+ year old mom on a weekend. I wake up to a couple cups of coffee and eye the clock until noon. Then, I consume an adult beverage or two followed by red wine in the evening. I’ve kept the same routine, same adult beverages for years because I didn’t think i’d enjoy anything else. I grew up on beer. It’s cheap and it was the only option for us country bumpkins. But, now that i’m grown-ish, I’ve decided to expand my palate and try something new.
As many of you know, Truly has been around for over 3yrs (give or take). They made their debut when all the others were launching their own concoctions. I have sampled most seltzers since stumbling upon Truly and I stand by my decision. All others were either too sugary, bitter after taste, or too carbonated. My favorite flavors thus far are grapefruit, wild berry and black cherry. Truly is made with 5% alcohol, 100 calories and only 2 gram of carbs in each can. It is also gluten-free! I have yet to feel bloated after having a few. I am consuming a lot less calories as well because I have found that 3 cans put me in a good place rather than downing 5-6 beers at 5 grams of carbs each. Being somewhat mindful of my health, I don’t feel the need to exercise more to maintain my physique and that’s always a great feeling.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I still reach for that cold, refreshing beer after completing yard work. For some odd, unexplainable reason, a hard seltzer doesn’t quite quench my thirst after manual labor. So, don’t you worry Miller Lite. We’ll still keep you in business!
What’s your go-to drink during summer?
